Huayna Potosí

Huayna Potosí is a prominent mountain located in the Cordillera Real range of the Bolivian Andes, near the city of El Alto and approximately 25 km (16 mi) north of La Paz, the country's administrative capital. The mountain rises to an elevation of 6,088 m (19,974 ft) above sea level, making it one of the most accessible high peaks in the world. It forms part of the eastern Andes, which runs parallel to the Altiplano plateau and marks the transition between the high intermontane plains and the Amazon basin. Its proximity to La Paz and El Alto makes it a distinct geographical landmark visible from much of the surrounding plateau and cities. Huayna Potosí is the closest high mountain to La Paz. Surrounded by high mountains, it is roughly 15 miles due north of the city, which makes this mountain the most popular climb in Bolivia.
